Powder Coatings

Powder coatings are applied in the form of a free-flowing, dry powder. Unlike liquid coatings, powder coatings do not require water or solvents to keep the binder and additive parts in a liquid suspension form.

Powder coatings are applied electrostatically and are then heat cured to allow them to flow and form a coating. They provide a hard surface finish that is much tougher than conventional paint, which results in excellent chemical and environmental resistance. Our fumed metal oxide products help to improve the color performance, processing, application and mechanical properties of powder coatings.

Our SpectrAl® fumed alumina and CAB-O-SIL® fumed silica products provide tribo-charging, free-flow, fluidization and anti-blocking in powder coating applications. Typically, fumed alumina is used for tribo coating processes and either fumed silica or hexamethyldisilazane (HMDZ) treated fumed alumina is selected for corona coating processes.

We also offer a broad portfolio of specialty carbon black products that can be used to provide deep black color or tinting to powder coatings. You can select the most suitable product from our portfolio based on your requirements and preferences for jetness, stability, handling ease and processing ease.

Fumed Metal Oxides

Product Name Product Description Datasheet SDS

A fluidizing additive specifically designed for powder coatings applications and other powders requiring enhanced free flow and fluidization performance.

CAB-O-SIL® CT-1221

A fluidizing additive specifically designed for powder coatings applications and other powders requiring enhanced free flow and fluidization performance.

SpectrAl® 100

A high surface area fumed alumina that has a similar morphology and many similar properties and functions as fumed silica. It differs from fumed silica in optical, thermal, electrical and charge characteristics.

Specialty Carbon Blacks

Product Name Product Description Datasheet SDS

A premium carbon black pigment that enables enhanced color performance, reduced dispersant loading and increased carbon black loading during the millbase step of solvent-borne manufacturing.

High color black pigment for automotive and other deep black water-based masstone coatings.

A pigment carbon black that is especially designed to provide excellent performance in waterborne automotive coatings. Employing a proprietary chemical surface treatment, the product imparts very high jetness, blue undertone, gloss and DOI. Also, unlike traditional high color carbon blacks, the unique surface treatment allows for easier dispersion, enhanced coatings stability and improved weatherability.

A small particle-treated specialty carbon black pigment designed to impart excellent jet masstones with strong tinting strength in high performance automotive, industrial and architectural coatings.

A pigment designed for liquid and powder coatings that require high color properties, such as automotive base coats. It has high color strength and strong undertone characteristics in both solvent and aqueous systems.

A powdered carbon black that offers a balance of jetness and blue tone, making it ideal for medium to high color black applications.

A carbon black that offers a balance of color and viscosity where superior jetness is required for interior/exterior automotive, electronic, appliance and business machine applications.
