Mercury emissions from coal-fired generators, cement kilns, industrial boilers, waste incinerators and steel mills are a serious environmental concern due to the toxicity and persistence of mercury that creates air pollution and accumulates in our waterways. In response to these concerns, regulatory agencies in the United States, Canada and other countries around the globe continue to introduce stricter regulations to limit these mercury emissions.

We pioneered the use of powdered activated carbon (PAC) for mercury capture in the municipal waste incineration market in the 1980s. And with almost 100 years of experience in activated carbon product innovation, we are leading the industry in developing new products that are tailored to meet your needs.

In addition to PAC product development, we have also developed storage silos and dust-free dosing units specifically designed for flue gas treatment. Treatment systems designed and installed by our team of experts, and using our specialty PACs, are currently in operation in many locations.   • DARCO Hg is an activated carbon manufactured specifically for the removal of mercury from coal-fired utility, cement kiln and industrial boiler flue gas emission streams. It has been demonstrated in numerous full scale operating facilities to be highly effective for the removal of mercury. Its open pore structure and fine particle size permit rapid adsorption, which is critical for high performance in flue gas streams where contact times are short. DARCO Hg is a free-flowing powdered carbon with minimal caking tendencies, which makes it ideal for automatic dosing systems with dry or wet injection. It is manufactured with a high ignition temperature to permit safe operation at the elevated temperatures inherent in flue gas streams.
  • DARCO Hg-LH is an activated carbon impregnated with a specially formulated halogen manufactured specifically for the removal of mercury from coal-fired utility flue gas streams. This product is intended for use in customer environments where mercury exists in elemental form and must be oxidized before capture. Over the past ten years, DARCO Hg-LH has become the benchmark product for use in North American coal-fired utilities. In more than 20 Department of Energy-sponsored tests, DARCO Hg-LH has performed 27% better than alternative halogenated activated carbon products. Its open pore structure and fine particle size permit rapid adsorption, which is critical for high performance in flue gas streams where contact times are short. DARCO Hg-LH is a free flowing powdered carbon with minimal caking tendencies, which makes it ideal for automatic dosing systems. The unique manufacturing process creates an activated carbon with a high ignition temperature to permit safe operation at the elevated temperatures inherent in flue gas streams.
  • DARCO Hg-CC EXTRA is a premium impregnated lignite coal-based activated carbon manufactured specifically for the removal of mercury from coal-fired utility flue gas streams where customers market their fly ash to the concrete industry. Traditional carbon materials can interfere with the use of air entrainment agents used in the manufacture of concrete; however, DARCO Hg-CC EXTRA was developed to minimize the impact of activated carbon on fly ash for concrete manufacturing. It is highly effective for the removal of mercury from the burning of low halogen fuels. Its open pore structure and fine particle size permit rapid adsorption, which is critical for high performance in flue gas streams where contact times are short. The unique manufacturing process creates an activated carbon with minimal caking tendencies, making it ideal for automatic dosing systems, and a high ignition temperature to permit safe operation at the temperatures inherent in flue gas streams.
  • DARCO Hg-LH EXTRA is a premium impregnated sorbent that has been demonstrated to provide 20% to 50% more effective mercury capture in customer configurations versus the industry benchmark product, particularly in challenging applications. It is manufactured using a new patent-pending process that improves oxidative capability resulting in improved mercury adsorption kinetics, which is critical in challenging systems including electrostatic precipitator (ESP) applications with minimal contact time and systems where SO3 is present. DARCO Hg-LH EXTRA is a free-flowing powdered carbon with minimal caking tendencies, which makes it ideal for automatic dosing systems. When combined with our industry-leading equipment systems, it results in a reliable and effective solution to meeting mercury regulations.
